Work on Writing: Part Two

Hey hey!  Around Thanksgiving break I started to notice that my students were completing their work on writing folder tasks quickly...too quickly!  I made it my mission to create some new activities that would be engaging and of course still "fun" for them!  They took off like little rabbits!  It was like I had given them something really cool.  We spent a little bit going over the activities I had given them.  We also have done a few whole group and plan to do some more whole group before I place them into their work on writing folders!

Below is a snapshot of my writing center.  Not too fancy..another mission I plan to tackle this summer!  The green baskets are my word work tubs.  My writing folders are found down below on the left and right.  I separate the folders to a girl and a boy side.  Just to make it quicker to find their folders.

So now on to some new activities :)

My new writing center pack two has 10 engaging writing center activities!  Best of all though...this packet is great for whole group writing lessons as well.  I actually like to use each activity whole group before placing it into their independent folders. How about a diary?  Every kiddo thinks a diary is the coolest thing ever :)  You can call is a journal too for the boys!  Inside the journal/diary there is a spot for the date, a story, picture, and a smile/frowny to show how they felt that day.  My kiddos really love these and were so upset the day before break when they didn't get to write in them!

How about these clue writing sheets?  There are two different version included. In version one the students get to come up with their own clue and in version two students have to figure out the clue.  The little one below didn't quite write a clue, but you get it! :)

Lots of opinion writing included in the packet too!  Below is a snapshot of an opinion writing graphic organizer.  It is always so cute to see their opinions and to back them up too :)
Along with this organizer there are two different opinion writing booklets included. 

Blank book of opinions.  This book is open ended!  Students can fill it with all kinds of opinions.  We all know about their opinions haha! :)

This is a guided book of opinions.  Students will  write their opinions on ketchup, unicorns, etc.

More writing templates for opinions.  Do you like _____?  Yes or no?

List writing too!  Several different templates for list writing.

The below snapshot comes from the retelling a familiar story starters.  Students see a familiar picture scene from a popular book.  They then retell the stories in their own words.

  2. Can you explain how you use the classroom pictionary and the inferencing activities. Thanks!!

    1. Hi there! For the classroom pictionary students draw pictures of items they see in the classroom and write the word under. Things like; computer, pencil, desk, etc For the inferencing I have the pictures laminated and they can choose a picture and inference what is happening and write a story about it! :) Hope that helps!
